About the Event
Explore Life, Liberty, and Los Angeles after hours with Senior Curator Carolyn Brucken. This special evening program offers a unique opportunity to experience the exhibition from the curator’s perspective.

Spanning centuries of history, the exhibition explores how generations of Angelenos have defined—and contested—the promise of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” From the deep presence of Gabrielino/Tongva communities to the city’s layered histories of migration, activism, conflict, and belonging, Life, Liberty, and Los Angeles presents Los Angeles as a place shaped by both opportunity and inequality.

Through artworks, historical objects, and contemporary voices, this tour offers a closer look at how personal stories intersect with larger struggles over rights, citizenship, and the meaning of home. Along the way, Carolyn will reflect on the questions that shape the exhibition—inviting visitors to consider how these histories continue to shape what life, liberty, and happiness might mean in Los Angeles today.
