Featuring the Los Angeles premiere of The Cosmopolitan West, a short film inspired by Pearl Hart, the so-called ‘Bandit Queen’ profiled in Cosmopolitan magazine in 1889.

Screening followed by a conversation with Clare Sears, author of Arresting Dress: Cross-Dressing, Law, and Fascination in Nineteenth-Century San Francisco, Nayan Shah, author of Stranger Intimacy: Contesting Race, Sexuality and the Law in the North American West, and filmmaker Molly Ratermann, exploring ways people tried to both control and defy gender and racial codes during this period.
